Sitework Estimating Services

How Sitework Estimating Works

1

Civil Drawing Review

You submit your civil plan set — grading plans, utility plans, paving plans, landscaping plans, and the civil specifications — through our secure upload portal.

2

Cut/Fill & Grading Calc

We analyze existing and proposed contours to calculate earthwork cut and fill volumes in cubic yards, applying appropriate shrink and swell factors based on soil classification.

3

Utility & Paving Quantities

Underground utility pipe, structures, and bedding are quantified by size and type. Paving areas are measured by surface type, and curb, gutter, and sidewalk are totaled in linear and square feet.

4

Deliver Site Estimate

Your complete sitework estimate is delivered within 24–48 hours in a structured Excel format, organized by CSI division and site element for straightforward pricing.

Contact Us

How do you calculate cut and fill?

We use the average end area method and grid methods applied to existing and proposed grade data taken directly from the civil grading plans. When a digital terrain model or Civil 3D file is available, we can reference that data to improve accuracy.

Do you include underground utilities?

Yes. We quantify sanitary sewer, storm drainage, water main, dry utilities, and site electrical conduit by pipe size, material, and linear footage. Manholes, catch basins, cleanouts, and other structures are counted separately.

Can you estimate detention ponds?

Yes. We calculate detention and retention pond excavation volumes, liner areas, outlet structure quantities, and rip-rap or erosion protection from the grading and stormwater management plans.

Do you cover landscaping?

Yes. We quantify landscape areas by type — sod, seed, mulch, ground cover — as well as tree and shrub counts and irrigation system quantities from the landscape and irrigation plans.

What software do you use for site estimates?

We use industry-standard takeoff and estimating software including Bluebeam for plan measurement and Excel for quantity reporting. For projects with Civil 3D models, we can reference model exports to supplement our takeoff.

What Our Clients Say

"Site estimates are always the most time-consuming part of our bid prep, and Plane Estimates cut that time in half. Their earthwork volumes were accurate and the utility quantities were broken out exactly the way we needed to price our subs. We have used them on three projects now and will keep coming back."
